I want to use the idea of combining the chair and the bag. You go the the beach and instead of carrying couple of things you can put everything in one place and just take it with you.

I dont like the design of it, the colors are fine and altough it is a beach chair I would prefer it to be a bit more elegant.

The compatibility of it is great, the thinking after the small details (thermal bottle pockets to keep it cold) are well designed.

LEX: Bionic Chair | Astride Bionix

It is very well designed, small, strong, lightweight and kind of nice looking regard the circumstances. I hate to find that someone already thought about idea of mine and made it, but in that case I will might be able to learn the floes and improve it in my design.

I wonder how much pressure does it puts on your legs while siting and if the leg straps interrupt walking or not. I would love to try it myself to understand how does it feel.

Inactivite | Benoit Malta

leibal_inactivite_malta_1.jpg

Beautiful design, very clean and simple. The idea of to legs is interesting as it is comfortable to sit but for short period of times. I guess it is made for short breaks. The small angle of the legs let the user play a bit with his posture on the chair.

Two-Legged Curt Deck Chair | Bernhard Burkard

The use of the environment is very interesting. I would like to try some ideas using nature (trees, rocks...). The red rubber is important for the chair not to slip from the weight of the user.

Another interesting chairless chair, though the first one is much more elegant and looks more comfortable. I dont like the idea that your shoos are connected to the object, it looks really robotic and unnatural.

Pinterest interesting random designs

elegant, simple, just don't know how to make it

The flow movement and the long circular shape is beautiful.

LIFE ON SUNDAYS

So simple, I love the way the fabric completes the circle. I dont like the design very much as it looks a bit like a hanging towel'but I like the idea.

Designed by Freyja Sewell to create a cozy and private space, HUSH is a seating pod made of a single piece of industrial felt that was water jet cut and stitched together using wool yarn. Much like a womb, Hush offers the perfect retreat when you need a break or open it up if you want to socialize, with the ever-increasing ways of connecting people, downtime can quickly disintegrate.

Feels so natural and safe, the quick shift between being part of the world and disconnect to your own private place.

Net Installation consists of multiple layers of flexible nets suspended in the air, creating a floating landscape open for visitors to climb in and explore. By Numen.

The use of mesh in a very playful way. Reminds the times being a good and playing in the playground in the neighborhood. The use of one material in a large space.

WoodworkerZ.com

Perfect for space saving. Modular designs are fascinating and I would love to play with that idea in the future.

One cool and sexy bench come seating space - cool for the studio, Explore - Google+ #product_design #cool

Shifting the shape of the bench give it different uses. I wonder what is the mechanism holding the wood pieces in the different positions.

Livdin - Live and Dine Young Multifunctional Sofa by Terrence Seah

Again a use of one object to two different situations. I really want to play with this kind of game, a chair for more uses than just a chair. Smooth and easy mechanism, very useful and place saving.

Tent Sofa | Philippe Malouin

tentsofa9.jpg tentsofa5.jpg

I am not sure what I think about this object. Chair tent is an interesting idea although I dont understand why? what is the meaning of it and what is it made from?

A chair that can become a tent or a combination of the two is great but it must be something that you can carry around. Homeless shelter? camping equipment?

The use of material and the thinking of how it reacts to body weight is amazing. Very simple design but still elegant.

So brilliant!! The best solution for small apartments. The design and mechanism are perfect, the simplicity suits the idea like a glove and the colors are soft in nice on the wall.

nickschairsketches_1_layout

This designs are really playful. They are out of the box thinking. He uses inordinary objects as chair with make me think if there are any rules or limits to what we can design? or how far can we take our thoughts and uses of objects around us?

I am interested about the compactability of some of the designs, how they can change figures.

Fold Place | Makkink & bay

Studio Makkink & Bey create furniture for a nomadic living room

It might no be very practical but the idea of carrying everything you need everywhere is interesting and Ill want to experiment that more. It seems like the wood sticks stuck in the back of the user which I guess is not comfortable, but making something similar with more thinking about the "bag" part might solve that.

Tensegrity

the characteristic property of a stable three-dimensional structure consisting of members under tension that are contiguous and members under compression that are not.

tensegrity 168 Tensegrity structure - Search - Google+ Tensegrity Tischgestell / tensegrity tableframe on Behance

This is very interesting idea, but after researching it a bit more, I found out that there is a lot of physics behind it to actually make something new from it, especially in 2 weeks. I would love to try and use it in the future.

SitPack 2.0 | SitPack

SitPack Foldable Seat

Very compact, can look much better but the idea is great, a chair you can carry everywhere in your bag. It is a great solution for people disabilities or elderly that might find it hard to stand all day. The telescopic mechanism is very interesting and might be good in my project. I dont like that it is made from plastic as it feel cheap.

Great improvement! The materials, the design. Answer the same problem but with much more thinking. Very light weighted and compact, again the telescopic mechanism. nature.

Materials Selection Charts

Young's modulus is a measure of the ability of a material to withstand changes in length when under lengthwise tension or compression. Sometimes referred to as the modulus of elasticity, Young's modulus is equal to the longitudinal stress divided by the strain.

Optional Materials:

Metals:

Aluminum and aluminum alloys are lightweight, non-ferrous metals with good corrosion resistance, ductility, and strength. Aluminum is relatively easy to fabricate by forming, machining, or welding. This metal is a good electrical and thermal conductor. Aluminum is also useful as an alloying element in steel and titanium alloys. Aluminum alloys are versatile metals with applications in almost every industrial and commercial segment.

Titanium and titanium alloys are non-ferrous metals with excellent corrosion resistance, good fatigue properties, and a high strength-to-weight ratio. It is paramagnetic and has fairly low electrical and thermal conductivity. Titanium's properties result in the use of titanium and titanium alloys in aircraft or airframe parts, jet engine super-alloy components, corrosion resistant chemical process equipment (valves, piping, and pumps), prostheses or medical devices, and marine equipment.

Stainless Steel  Strong, Hard, medium weight. Stainless steels are notable for their corrosion resistance. Stainless steels are rolled into sheets, plates, bars, wire, and tubing to be used in: cookware, cutlery, surgical instruments, major appliances; construction material in large buildings, such as the Chrysler Building; industrial equipment (for example, in paper mills, chemical plants, water treatment); and storage tanks and tankers for chemicals and food products (for example, chemical tankers and road tankers).

Plastic:

ABS Plastic main properties are impact resistance and toughness. A variety of modifications can be made to improve impact resistance, toughness, and heat resistance. Even though ABS plastics are used largely for mechanical purposes, they also have electrical properties that are fairly constant over a wide range of frequencies. ABS is flammable when it is exposed to high temperatures. ABS's light weight and ability to be injection molded and extruded make it useful in manufacturing products such as drain-waste-vent (DWV) pipe systems, musical instruments (recorders, plastic clarinets, and piano movements), golf club heads (because of its good shock absorbance), automotive trim components, automotive bumper bars, medical devices for blood access, enclosures for electrical and electronic assemblies, protective headgear, whitewater canoes, buffer edging for furniture and joinery panels, luggage and protective carrying cases, small kitchen appliances, and toys, including Lego and Kre-O bricks.Image result for ABS Plastic

polyethylene is of low strength, hardness and rigidity, but has a high ductility and impact strength as well as low friction. It shows strong creep under persistent force, which can be reduced by addition of short fibers. It feels waxy when touched. Polyethylene is a good electrical insulator.  Its primary use is in packaging (plastic bags, plastic films, geomembranes, containers including bottles, etc.).

Sample of granulated polyethylene

Polypropylene  properties are similar to polyethylene, but it is slightly harder and more heat resistant.

Nylon is a thermoplastic silky material[1]that can be melt-processed into fibers, films or shapes. Nylon polymers have found significant commercial applications in fabric and fibers (apparel, flooring and rubber reinforcement), in shapes (molded parts for cars, electrical equipment, etc.), and in films (mostly for food packaging).

Cordura is an “air treated” nylon fabric originally designed by DuPont. The chief advantages of Cordura fabric are its abrasion resistance and light weight. Used in higher end backpacks which are perfect for backpacking adventures. collection of fabric technologies used in a wide array of products including luggage, backpacks, trousers, military wear and performance apparel. Cordura fabrics are known for their durability and resistance to abrasions, tears and scuffs.

Rip-stop fabrics are woven fabrics most commonly made of nylon, using a special reinforcing technique that makes them resistant to tearing and ripping. During weaving, (thick) reinforcement threads are interwoven at regular intervals in a crosshatch pattern. The main advantages of rip-stop nylon are it’s excellent waterproofing and lightness in weight. Advantages of ripstop are the favourable strength-to-weight ratio and that small tears can not easily spread. Fibers used to make ripstop include cotton, silk, polyester, and polypropylene, with nylon content limited to the crosshatched threads that make it tear-resistant.

Mesh

  • A plastic mesh may be extruded, oriented, expanded, woven[1] or tubular. It can be made from polypropylene, polyethylene, nylon, PVC or PTFE.
  • A metal mesh may be woven, knitted, welded, expanded, photo-chemically etched or electroformed (screen filter) from steel or other metals.
  • In clothing, mesh is loosely woven or knitted fabric that has a large number of closely spaced holes. Knitted mesh is frequently used for modern sports jerseys and other clothing.
  • A mesh skin graft is a skin patch that has been cut systematically to create a mesh. Meshing of skin grafts provides coverage of a greater surface area at the recipient site, and also allows for the egress of serous or sanguinous fluid. However, it results in a rather pebbled appearance upon healing that may ultimately look less aesthetically pleasing.[2]
  • Fiberglass mesh[3] is a neatly woven, crisscross pattern of fiberglass thread that can be used to create new products such as door screens, filtration components, and reinforced adhesive tapes. It is commonly sprayed with a PVC coating to make it stronger, last longer, and to prevent skin irritation.

Carbon Fiber - High Strength to weight ratio, Rigidity, Corrosion resistance, Fatigue Resistance, Fire Resistance/Not flammable. is an extremely strong and light fiber-reinforced plastic which contains carbon fibers.

  • Carbon fiber pipes(6 pounds per 1 meter) - Not very expensive, super strong and super light. High Strength to weight ratio, Rigidity, Corrosion resistance, Electrical Conductivity, Fatigue Resistance, Good tensile strength but Brittle. Fire Resistance/Not flammable, High Thermal Conductivity in some forms, Low coefficient of thermal expansion and Non poisonous.
